Netflix is diving into a new cyber-punk/Black Runner sci-fi with their upcoming series. Altered Carbon looks at a world where a persons consciousness can be digitized and human bodies are interchangeable. Death no longer is permanent so why fear death.
Based on the classic cyberpunk noir novel by Richard K. Morgan, Altered Carbon is an intriguing story of murder, love, sex, and betrayal, set more than 300 years in the future. Society has been transformed by new technology: consciousness can be digitized; human bodies are interchangeable; death is no longer permanent. Takeshi Kovacs is the lone surviving soldier in a group of elite interstellar warriors who were defeated in an uprising against the new world order. His mind was imprisoned, “on ice”, for centuries until Laurens Bancroft, an impossibly wealthy, long-lived man, offers Kovacs the chance to live again. In exchange, Kovacs has to solve a murder … that of Bancroft himself. Altered Carbon launches on Netflix Friday, February 2.

If you look closely at the blurry image above you will see that beside the large R are the words, Some Disturbing Violence. Interesting is it not?
DC has success with R-rated material especially with the commercial success of the Killing Joke that they will attempt it again. This time around with Justice League Dark. The interesting part for me personally is that Matt Ryan the actor from the TV series Constantine is providing the voice for Constantine in the film. Jason O’Mara will return to voice Batman, Tomb Raider mo-cap actress Camilla Luddington will voice Zatanna, Nicholas Turturro will voice Deadman, Ray Chase will voice Jason Blood/Etrigan, Jerry O’Connell will return to voice Superman, and Rosario Dawson will return as the voice Wonder Woman.
DC animation does have a excellent track record with their animated films and I don’t expect that to change with this feature.
What do you think? Does DC have another hit on their hands?
