My Thoughts On Netflix/Marvel’s Iron Fist Season 2

Netflix/Marvel’s Iron Fist makes it return this Friday and if you, like me were not to sure about taking a second chance on Season 2. Well I have to say that episode one on it’s own is a big improvement. Hell episode one was better then most of Season 1. Yeah this is just my opinion but I was hooked and wanting more after viewing the first episode. Joy Meachum(Jessica Stroup) continues to seek revenge against Danny and her brother Ward Meachum(Tom Pelphrey) for keeping the secret of their father still being alive. Colleen Wing(Jessica Henwick) trying to leave the streets behind but being pulled back because of a mystery involving her family past.

This season we see more of Davos(Sacha Dhawan) as he wants to get back the Iron Fist that he believe he was rightfully his. Mommy he has what should of been mine and I am going to get it back to make you proud. I found Sacha Dhawan portray of Davos much more convincing then Finn Jones portray of Danny Rand, sorry Finn. You can feel Davos anger, hatred and jealous of Danny. But also at times his love for his adopted brother. Oh and his martial art skills are pretty dam good for the show. Sacha must of read and/or seen the complaints from last year.

Marvel’s Iron Fist

The charater that I am most happy to see has gotten a bigger role is Colleen Wing(Jessica Henwick). Colleen is  trying to leave the streets behind but being pulled back in because of a mystery involving her family past. There a couple of times that we get to see Colleen really kicking some ass. To be honest I would love to see more of her. Jessica Henwick was and still is in my opinion the real reason to watch Iron Fist if you want to see some really good TV martial arts. Yes of course being a good actress makes Colleen Wing come to life.

Marvel’s Iron Fist

Finally the introduction of Alice Eve as “Typhoid Mary” Walker. Based on the character introduced in Daredevil #254 to be the enemy of Matt Murdock(Daredevil) she is now a foil of Danny Rand. Alice Eve has done a very good job in the first six episodes I got to see in advance. I am not sure if any of her mutant skills will come into effect. It be a shame if they are not mention at least. In Iron Fist, Mary is an hired mercenary helping Joy with her revenge plans.

But lets us talk about the two of the biggest complaints for Season 1. I am among many that never felt that Finn Jones never really fit. I still have a hard time getting behind his portray of Danny Rand. I not going to shit on his acting. Hell I can’t act. Oh some who don’t will but I can only say from my point of view I never ever felt anything for the character. Yes does have to do on Finn Jones choice on the Danny Rand character. I will but part of the blame on show runner from Season 1, Scott Buck. Sorry to say that again I still do not get 100% behind Jones portray of Danny Rand.  It looks as Jones and new showrunner Raven Metzner (Sleepy Hollow, Falling Skies, Heroes Reborn) do have the character on the better track.

The second part that I had and heard many complain about was Finn Jones martial art skills. It was not good. That was major complaint along with Danny spent to much time whining. Well both of those have been corrected.

Finn Jones must of spent his off time with training and more training. It has paid off. There are times when you know that a stunt double/martial arts person is doing the job but overall a large improvement. Danny has found his purpose now in protecting the city(keeping his word to Matt Murdock) but mostly keeping a war between the remaining gangs from happening. Getting rid of the Hand has left a vacuum of a controlling gang. Now the rest want to be top dog or dragon.

So overall I have to say that the first six episodes that I got to watch are an improvement to the first season.  I like you will have to watch the 4 remainder episodes on Netflix when it drops on Friday. But unlike season 1 I am really looking forward to it.

Hey give a shot. Let me know what you think.

Oh yeah there is a special guest to.

Luke Cage Season 3: Sweet Christmas

Luke Cage is back and boys and girls I have looked forward to his return. I have not been disappointed. Okay is it perfect, no but showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker  created more than just a super-hero show. Season 3 deals with family, revenge, justice, accepting who you are and relationships.

Luke Cage (Mike Colter) is back and coming to accept that his role as the protector the streets of Harlem. Those streets are about to get crowded as John ‘Bushmaster’ Mclver (Mustafa Shakir)comes to get revenge on Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard). Many years ago the Stokes, Mariah Dillard’s maiden name, took what belong to both the Stokes and Mclver, Bushmaster Rum. Bushmaster seeks revenge and plans to make Mariah Stokes pay for what her family has done.

That folks is the A story but season 2 of Luke Cage has so many other layers. Mercedes “Misty” Knight(Simone Missick) struggles with the loss of her arm and being back on the force. Rosario Dawson returns as Claire Temple and her relationship with Luke is tested.  Luke feels the weight of Harlem on his shoulders and that slowly begins to chip away his and Claire’s relationship. Theo Rossi once again plays Hernan “Shades” Alvarez a character that you hate but love to see on the screen.

Introduced in Season 2 are Gabrielle Dennis as Tilda Johnson daugther of Mariah Dillard (Alfre Woodard). In what I consider one of the best scenes in the series is Mariah tells Tilda about her real father. Alfre Woodard gives a amazing performance here.  Tilda plays well off Alfre and you can feel both their pain. Also we are introduced to Mustafa Shakir as Bushmaster. I very capable match for Luke Cage and a very good job from Mustafa Shakir. Also the show has the final performance of Reg E. Cathey. If you don’t know the name you will know his face. Reg give a very heartfelt and touching  performance as Luke’s father.

Okay so the above was my attempted at being a reviewer. That was ewwww. Now this is really my review.

I love Season 2 of Luke Cage. I will be honest. I read some other reviews to try and make this article a well written review. But dam they are all over the place. Some critics loved it. Other thought it was poop. Well folks my advice is just watch it. Make up your own minds but damn give this a view. Don’t binge it, well I don’t recommend it. Take you time. Savior it, ingest it and drink it in slowly. There are performances that need to not be rushed through. Lines of dialogue that you will not remember because you need to see it all in one sitting. Mike Colter leads a great cast of actors.

Jessica Henwick(Collen Wing) shows up and her and Misty have some kicking ass fun in a bar. Cool as shit.

Buy far Luke Cage is my favorite superhero series on TV right now. Oh shit the music. Once again the music for the show is brilliant. I enjoyed all of it. Some of the rap lyrics was a little raw but hey I am a fat middle age white guy. But I did Shazam a few of those songs.

I could go on and on about different aspects of the series but shit that be a long ass read. So finally, yeah I know to long a article, but pull up a chair on Friday. You will enjoy Season 2 and if not, talk to the hand.
