The Love Of Art

A couple of weekends ago my son and I spent it at the the 4th Edmonton Expo. The Edmonton Expo has grow from 14,000 to a estimated 50,000 in those 4 short years. I don’t know about you but that is HUGE.

This year as I was making my way around the convention I came abound a display of a collage of some superhero toys. Toys smashed together to create something odd but amazing art work also.

I talked to Darren Havelock the creator/artist behind these pieces of art.

Darren said:

What these are, are model kits that I customize. These are commercial produced model kits that I buy and cut them up and break them down. Combine them with other things like dollar store items or Halloween items. To create fairly unique items.

Darren went on to tell me that he created these pieces and others just for the love of the art. While everyone was trying to sell merchandise, Darren just wanted to show people his work.

You can hear more of my interview with Darren in my upcoming The Pop Culture Cafe Podcast later in the week.

Marvel Vs DC Animated

How many times have you wanted to see the mightiest heroes from the DC universe take on the gang from Marvel. I am not talking about a comic book version. But a live action one. Of course we will never see one. But animator Saruhan Saral brings that idea to life in two animated shorts.

Bring together the likes of Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, Wolverine, Green Lantern, Deadpool, Deathstroke, Flash, Quicksilver, Hulk, Iron Man and so many more. I started to wondering why these two groups would be fighting to begin with? But sometimes heroes don’t need a reason to fight. But at the end you find out why and it is a very pleasing twist.

Marvel Vs DC: The Movie We All Dream About

Okay okay. I know I was going to take sometime off from posting but I found this totally cool fan made trailer that combines the DC universe and the Marvel universe. If you don’t get a excited a little seeing this truly amazing piece of work then hand in your geek/nerd card.

We all know that Marvel and DC will never produce a movie together. Maybe if the companies were actually self containing companies and not owned by money hungry capitalists. So this short is the closest we will every get. Combining scenes from a huge varity of movie and TV shows such as The Avengers, Man of Steel, The Amazing Spider-Man and Fox’s X-Men movies with video game clips and footage from the CW’s Arrow and The Flash, David E. Kelley’s failed Wonder Woman pilot, and so many others. Hey try and see how many and different movies, TV and video games you recognize.

Stumble Art

Some days I just like to sit back and hit the old Stumble Upon button and see where it takes me. The one place it takes me to on it’s travels is random art of the net. So I thought I would start posting various art that I found. Now some of these pieces do not have a name attached to them so if you know the artist that did one of the pieces let me know. I want to credit the artist.rickjameshulkchewboldab0c16ca2cbcbedc09ee8698260d05423130443876_a2b26d7666_o

Hulk Not Smashing Up In New Movie

ImageIt appears that at this time there will not be a new stand alone Hulk movie. While Captain America, Iron Man, Thor and The Avengers will be getting sequels it looks like the big green dude will not. Now I don’t know about you all but I was very happy with Mark Ruffalo. Mark did a great job as Bruce Banner. Of course Joss Whedon helped a little. I am sure if Joss could find the time to do a new Hulk movie it would be successful. So until the next Avengers movie comes out will have to just wait for May 1, 2015. Image

Mark Ruffalo tweeted about the situation saying “A lot of folks have been asking about the Next Hulk. The next time you see my Hulk it will be in the Avengers2. No plans for stand alone.” and shortly after that “I am not giving up on another stand alone HULK. But it’s not in the works right now. One never knows what the future will bring.”

So there you have it. Count the days.
