Movie Monday: Apocalypse Now Now

Based on the novel written by Charlie Human this short film is a proof of concept from Micheal Matthews.

Baxter Zevcenko’s life is pretty sweet. He’s making a name for himself as the kingpin of his smut-peddling high-school syndicate, the other gangs are staying out of his business, and he’s dating the girl of his dreams, Esme.

But when Esme gets kidnapped, things start to get seriously weird, and the only man drunk enough to help is a bearded, booze-soaked, supernatural bounty hunter that goes by the name of Jackson ‘Jackie’ Ronin.

Plunged into the increasingly bizarre landscape of Cape Town’s supernatural underworld, Baxter and Ronin team up to save Esme. On a journey that takes them through the realms of impossibility, they must face every conceivable nightmare to get her back, including the odd brush with the Apocalypse.

Does this not look like a fucked up Ghostbuster with a  fucked up Harry Potter thrown into the pot. Dam I loved this short.  The latest I have about this short and going forward is from an article written by Andrew Liptak for The Verge on Aug 31, 2017

of Aug 31, 2017.

An Canadian company optioned the Charlie Human’s urban-fantasy novel with District 9 writer Terri Tatchell to adapt it for the screen. Click on the link for more info.

Dam does this not look interesting. Hell at least it be something different from the consent super-hero movies.

Destination Wedding Trailer HD

DESTINATION WEDDING reunites two of Hollywood’s most adored stars, Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder, as the socially awkward Frank and Lindsay.

When they meet on their way to a destination wedding, they soon discover they have a lot in common: they both hate the bride, the groom, the wedding, themselves, and most especially each other. As the weekend’s events continually force them together – and their cheerlessness immediately isolates them from the other guests – Frank and Lindsay find that if you verbally spar with someone long enough, anything can happen. When debate gives way to desire, they must decide which is stronger: their hearts or their common sense.

Comic Review: Saga Volume 1

Saga Volume 1

Written by Brian K. Vaughan

Artist Fiona Staples

Lettering & Design Fonografiks

If you have a social media account then you have probably seen a post or two about Brian K. Vaughan’s book Saga. Over the past few years, I’ve seen the hype but never took the time to read it. Recently, I picked up volume 1 in trade paperback. This book consists of the first six issues. Let me tell you I’m so glad I started reading this book.

Saga is a space version of Romeo and Juliet with many twists. Two soldiers from opposite sides of an interstellar war (Alana and Marko) fall in love, they risk everything after the birth of their daughter, Hazel. Throughout the story they are continually being hunted. The world Brain K. Vaughan has created is simultaneously laughable, wild and emotionally grounded.

One of the main elements I enjoy in this book are the characters. There is a Royal family constructed of humanistic robots with TVs for heads, babysitting ghost, and a lying cat ( a giant cat that serves as a lie detector) and so many more.
The art in this book by Fiona Staples is brilliantly breathtaking. The panels flow so smoothly complementing Vaughan’s writing. Brilliant colors are found throughout this book, as well.
One thing I should mention is this book is not for children. It’s an adult graphic novel. If you can handle a lot of adult topics ( explicit sexual scenes, violence, and language) then I say, pick up this book you will not be disappointed!

Marvel’s Luke Cage – Season 2 Official Trailer

“Can one man save a community? And in his struggle to do so, will he find himself consumed by the very darkness he is fighting against? As a new VILLAIN rises, and a QUEEN takes the throne in HARLEM, cracks begin to form in the once unbreakable HERO…”

Marvel’s Luke Cage

The bullet proof man, Luke Cage(Mike Colter)is back and protecting Harlem. Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson), also returns and appears to be acting as an conscience for Luke in this season. Misty Knight (Simone Missick) is back also with prosthetic arm that she has  in the comics. I wonder if any mention that she gets her new arm from Tony Stark????  Mariah (Alfre Woodard) is clearly up to no good once again and tiring to gain more control of Harlem. The premiere episode of the second season is directed by Lucy Liu.

Season 2 of Netflix’s Luke Cage will be hitting your TV screen June 22.
