Avengers: The Enemy Within #1

avengers-enemy-within The book deals with our lead character, Captain Marvel who has been diagnosed with a lesion in the superchiasmatic nucleus of her brain. The lesion on her brain grounds Captain Marvel because flying makes the lesion worse. Superchiasmatic nucleus is a real thing I looked it up, WTF? Captain Marvel also had a new nemesis, Magnetron. No not Megatron even though that be cool. Magnetron has been messing with the Captains friends and people she loves and well she is not happy. Cap Marvel is help along the way by Spider-Woman and The Mighty Thor makes appearance to help find “Grandma Rose”

I found the story all right but not really anything special. I may of been more interested if I had been reading the Avengers but as a stand alone part one of five, nay. Spider-Woman I found annoying and trying to be a wise cracking version of Peter Pakers Spiderman. It just did not work for me. I have not read any of Kelly Sue DeConnick’s other work but this one does nothing for me. Sorry Kelly. The art by Scott Hepburn was okay but I was not really impressed. I hate to say that because the art of any comic book artist is what holds me to any book and this just did not float my boat.  There were a couple of panels that impressed me but over all but nothing popped.

So over all the book was fine but not enough for me to continue getting the rest of the series. I hate not liking it because the writer and artist put so much time and effort into these books. But I can not like them all. But hey you might like it so pick it up. I am just a fan of comics like you.

All said and done I give Avengers: The Enemy Within 2 lesion out of 5

Remember comics are to be enjoyed, not destroyed.
