I was lucky enough to get advance screeners of the first 4 episodes of Marvel’s The Defenders and boy was I pissed. Not because that the those first four were bad but they left me hanging. I had really gotten into the show and then bam done. Depending on when you read this will have only a few days to see the episodes all at once. Marvel’s The Defenders drop this Friday and I will finish it this weekend.
Netflix posted a featurette to help get you into the mood. I don’t think it will take much if you have been waiting this long.
Marvel’s The Defenders which premieres globally on Netflix on August 18, 2017 at 12:01am PT follows Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Danny Rand/Iron Fist (Finn Jones), a quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

While doing some research for the latest The Pop Culture Cafe podcast I came across the trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s new film, The Shape of Water. As with a del Toro movie you step into another world from Guillermo mind. But is it a totally original? I got trapped down the YouTube rabbit hole after watching the trailer. I came across a short film from Norway, The Space Between Us. The Space Between Us was a short film by the Netherlands Film Academy in 2015. Now after watching each trailer does it each have a similar feel and look.
The Shape of Water
An other-worldly story, set against the backdrop of Cold War era America circa 1963. In the hidden high-security government laboratory where she works, lonely Elisa (Hawkins) is trapped in a life of silence and isolation. Elisa’s life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment.
We follow Juliette, a cleaning lady in a research institute called Beacon. The world of Beacon is a desolate place where the remainder of the human race is forced to use oxygen masks to survive because of severe air pollution.
In their search for finding a new way of living they manage to capture a sea creature, they name Adam that could prove vital in mankind’s salvation. The short film explores the theme self-sacrifice in a fast paced action, sci – fi setting. The main selling point is the VFX done by a crew of 10 students at The Netherlands Film Academy
Now I am not shitting on Guillermo del Toro here. But I did find from these two trailers I find it hard to believe that del Toro did not come across film and a germ of a idea came about.
What do you think?
If you have listening to The Pop Culture Cafe podcast(if not shame on you) Scott and I talked about the “My Friend Dahmer”. Well if you have not seen it then here you go ladies and gents.
Before Jeffrey Dahmer became a notorious serial killer, he was a shy, alcoholic teen who never quite fit in. Based on the acclaimed graphic novel by Derf Backderf, this is the true, haunting story of Jeffrey Dahmer in high school.
Ryan Reynolds is a marketing tool on his own. Reynolds has since the first Deadpool movie Ryan has constantly tweeted, Instagram images and updates. I truly believe that Ryan was able to get people out to see Deadpool because of the use of social media. Once again he has done it with Deadpool 2. Earlier he used social media to introduce us to Zazie Beetz as Domino.
Now this weekend Reynolds posted 2 pictures of Josh Brolin in full Cable gear. Brolin’s Cable has the cybernetic arm, and eye along with an adorable teddy bear attached to his belt. This version of Cable is trimmed down but looks dam good.
Brolin is looking dam good.
How do we get ahead of crazy if we don’t know how crazy thinks? Two FBI agents (Jonathan Groff & Holt McCallany) set out on a sinister investigative odyssey to discover the brutal answers. MINDHUNTER. Coming to Netflix October 13, 2017.
I don’t know about you but this looks dam interesting. Disturbing at time from the trailer but worth checking into.

Neill Blomkamp has been a very busy boy. Earlier Neill release to short film through Oats Studios, titled “Rakka.” Now this time an 26:52 short film called “Firebase”.
Neill Blomkamp along with independent production studio, Oats Studios are producing some great experimental filmed content. Then through various online platforms they will be able to raise additional funding by sale of more original digital content on Steam. Their hope is that they will be able to then give what the fans want by financial support and feed back. So in a small way each financial backer is a producer.
If you enjoy this short film and would love to help support Neill and Oats Studios follow the links below.

The FF are unfortunately and very visibly missing form the MCU and with that horrible iterations that came out we can safely say the rights desperately need to be reverted back to Marvel. Now that being said I believe it needs to happen sooner that later as it would help quell the injustice Marvel has subjected white people with.
Yes, you just read that right: injustice to the white people. With all these politically correct motivated changes to characters via their back story or even their ethnicity (looking at you Heimdal) I honestly believe the FF need to be released as they should be: all white and all American.
It just feels that they (white people) are not being represented and with Luke Cage and Black Panther making white America feeling some what uncomfortable kinda of way it’s time they get a Marvel movie just for them where they can be the hero again. Where they can be the center of attention with no sidekicks or some kind of ethic liaison to Shield or any crap like that.
Marvel please give them the heroes they deserve. The heroes they need so they can stop feeling left out. This way Lil Tommy and Lil Jane can look at the big screen and see themselves.
