Movie Monday: A Sci-Fi Action Short Film: “SEAM”

This is a fantastic little short film. I found it after I was watching another short film to talk about. But this film really grab me for it’s action and story. Take a few minutes and watch it. No matter who or where we are we all love Sci-Fi

In the not-too-distant future, a tenuous peace between humans and remarkably human-like “machines”—some don’t even know they’re not real—is tested when synthetics begin spontaneously exploding. A military-led search for these unwitting suicide bombers begins, sending a terrified machine woman and her human partner on the run. Directed by the talented Dassani brothers, Elan Dassani and Rajeev Dassani!

A Sci-Fi Short Film HD: “PLUG”

On the latest The Pop Culture Cafe Scott and I talk about this short film.  If you are a fan of the “Ghost In The Shell” or “Appleseed” you may notice that some of the design of the robots have the look for these series.

On a post-apocalyptic Earth, Leila Dawn (Natalie Floyd), is the only human survivor. Raised by Robots after humanity abandoned the planet they destroyed with nuclear warfare, Leila cannot forget her parents nor ignore her yearning to find other organic life. A hunt she sets out on with Swat Team robot, Marker (Lex Cassar), leads Leila to discover a human disguised as Robot, Ray (Jake Lyall), and the reality she’s been denied-a reality that sparks her ultimate quest. PLUG is a short film from acclaimed science-fiction film art director, David Levy (Tron Legacy, Prometheus, Enders Game, Tomorrow Land). It is the first installment of Levy’s yet to be produced epic series/feature, which follows Leila on her quest to reunite with humanity and the impossible choices she must make about her allegiances – Human or Robot.

Oats Studios – Volume 1 – Firebase

Neill Blomkamp has been a very busy boy. Earlier Neill release to short film through Oats Studios, titled “Rakka.”  Now this time an 26:52 short film called “Firebase”.

Neill Blomkamp along with independent production studio, Oats Studios are producing some great experimental filmed content. Then  through various online platforms they will be able to raise additional funding by sale of more original digital content on Steam.  Their hope is that they will be able to then give what the fans want by financial support and feed back.  So in a small way each financial backer is a producer.

If you enjoy this short film and would love to help support Neill and Oats Studios follow the links below.

More From Oats Studios and Neill Blomkamps

A little while ago Scott let you know about a new experimental short film project from Neill Blomkamp. Well today Neill and Oats Studios gave us another view into this new project. Some “more weird shit” as it is mention in the trailer.

We get to see more of the effects coming and more action. Also we get to see Sigourney Weaver in this one. Some of the effects look dam impressive. This looks very, very interesting.

Take a look. Does this not interest you? Come on now just a little right?

Oat Studios- Volume 1 – Neil Blomkamps short film teaser

Oat studios(based out of Vancouver, Canada) is a gambit for Neil Blomkamp. He’s wondering if people will pay for short films that could be developed into full length films. I really think he is on to something. This teaser looks amazing.

I’m a bit bummed he never got his shot at the Aliens franchise but if this short clip is any indication he may very well have his own “Alien” franchise on his hands. If you look closely at this clip I swear that looks like Sigourney Weaver at 42 seconds. If she has interest in this style of film making ,I’m sold already.

I will admit the creatures look like a cross between Raptors and a Godzilla face but I’ve seen a lot worse make it to feature film. Exciting concept if it takes off. Can you imagine the future if studios can road test their films before they get greenlit? Would change the industry…for good or bad, I’m not sure…

Enjoy,Scott
