Man, I am loving this story so far. It’s gritty, horrifying and intense. Justin Jordan has to have one of my favourite writing styles right now. Through flashbacks and present time conversation you’re getting a thoroughly flesh out story of what created this rogue ex- military death squad and why main character Abel was allowed to “escape” the program so many years ago.
The story and character reveal have been as slow and as methodical as the killing machines that they are referencing. Lead character Kira Sinclair has no illusion who she is dealing with….the psyche who she is dealing with, and it’s refreshing to see a character written who does not automatically try to see the good in humanity.
You can feel a bigger story at play here, but the writing has been so entertaining on the subplots that you don’t really feel the need to think about that too much at this point in time. Many times I feel there can be too much foreshadowing in a story that it gives you too much opportunity to guess ahead. I legitimately have no idea where this next chapter is going to lead.
Artist Ibrahim Moustafa and Colorist Jordan Boyd have been able to paint a dark, ice blue world as cold as the characters in this story. For being a self admitted “Goody two shoes “Ibrahim Moustafa sure does know how to draw some psychotically happy looking characters. He’s not as classic a drawer as his influence Alex Ross, but he’s been able to bring out the sinister in every character he has drawn in this series so far. Serenely brutal facial expressions
Can’t recommend this book enough folks. I’m enjoying it more and more each issue. Issue #3 ships May 3rd.Issues #1 and 2# should still be on the shelves.Cheers
