This is a pretty dark book. Think a cross between Dexter and the Bourne franchise, and you get a good feel for the pulse of this series. Studies have shown that approximately 1% per cent of the population are born psychopaths. If you had a chance to channel them…would you? Put their talents to better use then the uses they’d find for their talents themselves….?
Writer Justin Jordan tells a pretty good first chapter of exactly what can happen when you lose control of something you never really understood in the first place. The most scary and realistic part of this story is that there is probably a good chance aspects of it has already happened here in the real world. The dialogue is really well written and the pace of the book is eerily calm for the situations that are presented panel to panel.
I’ve always liked books that teach me something also, along with telling a good story. I had no idea what a homicidal triad was until I read this first chapter. Now I question myself why I had such a fascination with lighting matches when I was younger. Thank god that’s only one prong. I have 4 dogs and love them like children so I’m safe on that count. You learn things in this book though:)
“There are forty of you in here now. This door doesn’t open again until there are twenty“……..brutally effective writing. Add that with the art of Ibrahim Moustafa and those panels just run ice cold. A good artist can tell a lot with facial expressions. A great artist can tell a lot with SUPRESSED facial expressions.
I’m still not sure where this story is going. Is it a story of redemption? of unfinished business? or just a trip into the warped minds of a serial killer nation? I should state now that this book is definitely for mature readers. There are some pretty disturbing panels of art in here but there pretty much needed to be.
Chapter 2 is out April 5th.I’m going to be reading it.
