Vin Diesel Would like to see a Groot Movie

Groot and Rocket Raccoon are great supporting characters but like Marvel Comics is finding out right now. Support characters don’t necessarily sell. I suppose you could point to the international success of Mr. Bean that would validate claims that you could have a star with a non speaking part. This film however would have to be serious in some respect while MR Bean is comedy. Two very different genres.

I think the fact they took a 3rd string character from the comics and turned him into one of the best selling dolls/Action figures of the year is still a pretty good accomplishment. In the spirit of compromise though I’d be willing to watch Vin Diesel say nothing but “I am Groot” in the next Fast and Furious movie. Thanks to the folks at MTV International for the hook- up(I’m 45 and shouldn’t be using that slang…humble apologies.)

Comic Review -Holliston- Friendship is Tragic – A few thoughts

This book was probably different than any I have read  in recent memory for two simple facts. The prologue from writer/creator/life story inspiration Adam Green at the beginning of the book, and the fact that most of the jokes in the comic landed.

Adam’s been through some shit….some very, very, very rough shit. This book is in many ways a “road back” project for him and I think for the most part he, along with the future of this title, is going to be okay.

Onto the book itself.

Can money really buy you happiness? Can that happiness turn into a nightmare? Is credit really the root of all evil? After reading this book I have a few thoughts that it very well may be.

In a nutshell this is the story of Joe and Adam. Two buds who simply want to try to make the best Halloween party…..EVAH.

Let’s get into the meat and potatoes part of it first. Greg Wright  wrote a pretty entertaining story. It flowed well and at no part did I know where it was going next. As I mentioned earlier the jokes, for the most part, all landed nicely and a few were extremely chuckle worthy.

Stephen Sharar drew us a great story and his art reminded me a bit of Scooby Doo which would make sense for a bit of a whacky ride. His character expressions even helped the previously mentioned funny jokes land.

The colors fit the dark humorous quirky vibe of the comic and Joshua Werner did a great job on the title design. Lots of dark blues, shades of browns and orange to match the telling of a Halloween story.

The characters are likable and mesh well together. You can tell this at some point in time was based on “real life”….which it was. I’m not sure if this was a one – off, but I hope not ,as I think there is more story to be told. I’m not sure I would include as many inside jokes and pop culture references the next time around because I thought a few times “No one over 40 is getting that one”…..

On a personal note, I was a metal fan growing up. Never listened to Gwar.I will now for the experience. He’d be proud of this dude. Take care.

Netflix: 13 Reason Why

Netflix announced a new original series 13 Reasons Why that will launch March 31, 2017.

Based on the best-selling books by Jay Asher, the Netflix Original series 13 Reasons Why follows Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) as he returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker—his classmate and crush—who tragically committed suicide two weeks earlier. On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Will Clay be one of them? 13 Reasons Why comes from executive producers Tom McCarthy, Brian Yorkey, Selena Gomez, Joy Gorman and Kristel Laiblin.

I have to say that reading the synopsis for this show I don’t know if I will be able to watch this show. Well I will at some point at least check it.  My curiosity will get best of me.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

I can’t believe I missed this. Resident Evil is out today. Now when your eyes come back down into your head from what might be a tremendous eye roll……bear in mind….This is the last one.

These series must be making money, otherwise they wouldn’t simply keep making them. It’s not like Milla Jovovich is sleeping with the director…………..she is married to the director…’s a totally….totally.. different thing.

Okay, I had my sargasm(sarcastic orgasm Copyright 2017).Let’s move on.

I just watched the trailer for this, and to be honest if your itching for a little apocalypse this weekend, this might not be too bad. I honestly never really had a problem with Milla Jovovichs acting in these films, and to be honest with the abundance of video game property failures that have been made in the last 10 years ,this is actually a success story.

I see Ali Carter is also back(huh?). One pleasant surprise was seeing Iain Glenn(Ser Jorah Mormont) back, as he’s just the type of actor that can bring good to a script simply by being in the film. Another pleasant surprise to see was model turned actress Ruby Rose is part of the story. She was in Seasons 3 & 4 of “Orange is the New Black” and did a wonderful job.

(Side note. On researching the rest of the cast I’ve come to the conclusion that actor Shawn Roberts has as much, if not more, “Zombie cred” as George Romero”. I counted 9 zombie films in his filmography)

If you can’t wait 3 weeks for TWD to start back up and need your fix at the end of the world. This may be for you.Enjoy
