Kamala Khan is a normal girl from Jersey City. She comes from loving home. Kamala wants want every 16 year old teenager girls wants, friends and acceptance from her peers. Kamala if everything a young Muslim woman wants to be in America. Well almost.

Marvel has brought us the story of a young girl of Muslim faith living in a world that is tough enough for a normal girl.  Well normal according to Kamala. A young woman not sure of where she stands? Is she Muslim or America and conflicted with trying to live in both cultures. Kamala is second generation Muslim American born and raised in Jersey City.  Kamala decides that one night she is going to be a normal girl and sneaks out to go to a party. I think kids of any race, religion, creed all do the same thing. They all believe they know better what is right and their parents do not. Normal, right?

ms_marvel_1_preview_3While walking home Kamala is surrounded by a blue fog that has appeared out of no where. Hopefully that will be answered later on and not left open. Waken by a beam of light Kamala finds Captain Marvel, Iron Man and Captain America floating in front of her like something out of a Bollywood movie. Kamala is asked what “who do you want to be”? and in her mind she wants to be a normal, like Captain Marvel. Normal being a tall, white, blond heroine that kicks butt.

So being told that she is going to get a reboot and warned that it will not turn out the way she thinks Kamala awakens from a cocoon, a tall, white, blond Ms Marvel.

So in issue #1 we a given of a very simple story. Be happy with what and who you are. Because sometime the thing you wish for is the worse thing that can happen to you. The first part of the story where we learn that Kamala is Muslim is simply a introduction of the different conflicts that her faith may cause problem. As much a what the conflicts if the character was black, Asian, Jewish, Buddhist would have because of who they are.

So in the long run I enjoyed Ms Marvel. Am I going to get some more….um, maybe. Just simple I reading so much books I have to be really picky. But saying that I am not telling you not to get this book. I would get it and give a shot.

In the end I give Ms Marvel #1  3 pops out of 5.

Remember comics are to be enjoyed. Not destroyed.

Starring the voices of Eliza Dushku as Catwoman and John DiMaggio as Roughcut.

Cospaly Thursday

Hey Poppers

This time around for Cosplay Thursday I decide to highlight one of the leading female cosplayers out there in the world of Cosplay.

Jessica Nigri

If you a cosplay player or a fan you must know of Jessica. Jessica has been doing cosplay since 2009 and in 2012 she won the IGN contest to portray Juliet Starling. The protagonist of the game Lollipop Chainsaw. Jessica has portrayed  numerous characters and represented many gaming  companies.

You can see more of her work at Jessica Nigri Fan Page on Facebook

Movie Monday: Project Arbiter

Movie Monday again Poppers. Hello and welcome back.

Today’s short film is a little longer than most I have posted but is a beautiful piece. Set during WW 2 this film adds some Sci-Fi elements to a normal war film. I am going to be lazy here and post the synopsis from the YouTube page but it explains the short better then I can.

1943. Thousands of feet above Northern Europe a small plane carries a skeleton crew of the Allies best, including special operative captain Joseph Colburn. His handler, major Thomas Hardy does a final review of the mission’s grim intel: infiltrate a mysterious villa on the Polish border and uncover its secrets. Colburn emerges donning a prototype suit, which can temporarily render its user invisible. As the plane’s bay doors howl open Colburn begins to put on the skull-faced helmet when the plane is rocked by an anti-aircraft shell. Rapidly losing air pressure and altitude, now there’s no question… This is a one-way mission.

Written and direct by Michael Chance this short film is very well crafted. Lead by lead actor Lex Cassar the acting is strong through out the film.  The special effects are great and look amazing. If you are interest in finding out more about the production of the film please head over to

Alison Carter is a private dick or if you like a private detective even though dick seems to fit better. Alison has taken up the family business. The family business is saving the world from the constant threat of the world ending. Using guns, magic and a smart ass attitude to help her do her job.

We are introduced to Alison on one of her normal jobs, stopping a crazy from using a eater of worlds.  Using the seal of Balthasar to awake a world eater the crazy can use the seal to control the creature. Well Alison simply shoots the seal destroying it. Once the seal is destroyed the crazy loses control of the world eater and being pissed because it has been waken, eats the crazy. Done with snack time, the world eater goes back to sleep. You see the world eater comes out only when the end of the world actually happens, not before. So with a single shot problem solved.

ApocalypseAl-01-pg2So in those few pages you get a idea of Alison Carter and what her job details. Dealing with a world filled with monsters, demons, trolls, zombie detectives and just the crazies that inhabit this odd world.

J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5, Twilight Zone, the Saturn Award, SFWA’s Ray Bradbury Award) has created a mystical world where the human race and magically world live together. In most cases I say not very well. I am reminded of Buffy when reading this except of a stake, it is a gun. Does Alison hid something behind all the smart ass remakes or could it be for a change this is just who she is. I like her character, a woman of strength and seems like a person that actually likes her job, maybe? Alison next job may be here biggest and I am not telling you who it is, get the dam book and find out.

The one thing you will notice is that there a 30 pages of story here without any ads. I did not notice until the end because I was having a great time reading this story.

Sid Kotian is credit with doing the line art for this book. Is that just a fancy why of say he was the artist? Well Sid does a great job and his art fits well with the story. Feeling free flowing and light as the story. At times there is a cartoonist look in one panel and in the next great detail.

So if you have not gotten out and got this book then get you ASS out there and get it. Again this is a short series which I am really beginning to enjoy more and more.

So in the end I give Apocalypse AI #1 4 1/2 pops out of 5.
